During the week when Pluto (July 2015) was the main topic worldwide with the

arrival of the New Horizons Mission to the dwarf planet, we want to show something that very few users know or use: In ArcGIS, it is possible to define the coordinate systems for all the

planets in the solar system and also moons and dwarf planets like Pluto. In ArcMap, search for Solar to find the coordinate systems of the main objects in our solar system.

If NASA releases

high-resolution georeferenced images of Pluto or even its moon Charon (Charon), it is possible to define the coordinate system GCS_Pluto_2000 or GCS_Charon_2000, open and work with these images directly in ArcGIS. To check out other planetary projections, go to the data frame properties and navigate to

Geographic Coordinate Systems>Solar System and select the desired one. Source: NASA

In ArcGIS PRO

The coordinates of solar system objects in ArcGIS PRO are within
